Death of Retired NRPS Officer (Cst) Tom McBride – May 1, 2024

Tom peacefully passed away at the Port Colborne Hospital on May 1, 2024, at 5:05 a.m., surrounded by loved ones in palliative care.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jean Margaret Ann King of Peterborough, and Charles Stanley McBride of St. Catharines, as well as his brother Bryan Anderson.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Little McBride, his children Terry of Huntsville and Shannon (Tim) McBride, his sisters Margaret Delano of St. Catharines, and Dianne McTrivish of Parry Sound. He is also survived by his stepchildren James (Steph) Little of Dwight, ON, and Joshua (Serena) Little of Welland, along with grandchildren C.J., Konner, Georgia, Josh, Broc, and River. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth’s sister, who has been her rock throughout his illness. Tom will be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless cherished friends.

Tom dedicated 30 years of his life to serving as a Niagara Regional Police Officer in St. Catharines before retiring to his cottage outside of Huntsville. He then became an active member of the Volunteer Fire Department at Interlaken, passionately serving for 11 years until his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease.

Despite his health challenges, Tom showed remarkable resilience, bravely living with the disease for 17 years. A true social butterfly, Tom had a gift for connecting with others,
making friends wherever he went. He took great joy in entertaining, hosting lively gatherings on the dock, firing up the BBQ, and fostering a warm and welcoming environment for all who crossed his threshold.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to RPNs Caroline and Jessicaand the compassionate staff at the Woolcott Wing in Welland for their attentive care for five months. Special appreciation is also extended to Dr. Shear and the exceptional nursing team at the Port Colborne Palliative Care floor for their unwavering support and kindness.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Welland. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tom may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society, causes that were close to his heart.
