HANAM, Frederic – It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the sudden passing of Frederic Hanam on January 10, 2025 at the age of 83. Born March 30, 1941 to Wilfred Hanam and Florence (Graham), he leaves behind his cherished family: wife Sheila (Thompstone) of 59 years, children Darryl and Michelle (Mark) Magdic, grandsons Ryan and Kyle. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law David (Kathy) Thompstone and Peter (Peter) Thompstone and many cousins.
Constable Fred Hanam was a proud police officer beginning his career with the OPP for 2 years and then joining the St. Catharines City Police (later Niagara Regional) where he served his community for 31 years. He took pride in helping people and maintaining their safety. In 1973 he completed a degree in Criminology at The University of Toronto.
Nothing brought Fred more joy than spending time with his grandsons and he devoted a good part of his retirement to them. Fred was passionate about genealogy and spent years researching his family’s history. He was a 50 year member of the Mason’s Maple Leaf Lodge 103 and life time member of St. Georges Anglican Church.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 83 Church Street, St. Catharines on Monday January 20, 2025 at 2pm and a celebration of life to follow at Cat’s Caboose, 224 Glenridge Avenue, 3:30-6:30pm.
