Death of Retired NRPS Member – John McCallum

McCALLUM, John Duncan (Iain) –  Surrounded by the love of his family at the St. Catharines General Hospital, it is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of John (Iain) McCallum, 86 years young, on July 4th, 2015. Cherished husband for 56 years of Margaret (Marie) predeceased 2011; loving Father to Fiona (Gerry) Lalonde and Sheena Grierson; proud Papa to Jaime McCabe-Cook (Mark), Derek (Katy) McCabe and Andrew Grierson; adored by great-granddaughter Kaleigh Marie and his wee “bobby dazzler”, great-grandson Aidan; and fondly remembered by cousins Carol Lahey and Diana (Jim) Craddock. Survived by his sisters Margaret Idzenga of St. Catharines and Annie (Ian) MacLeod of Irvine, Scotland, along with other family in Scotland, Canada and the U.S. Iain was born in Ardrossan, Scotland on September 14th, 1928 where he served as an electrician in both the Royal Air Force and with Shell Oil. He later became a member of the Metropolitan Police Force for 12 years stationed in South Mimms, England before immigrating to Canada in 1966, where he joined the Niagara Regional Police until his retirement in 1988. Iain was a founding member of the Niagara Regional Police Pipe Band and was an avid golfer with his Seniors group of friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who helped to keep him young at heart. Although he will be missed by so many, our memories of such a very special man are plentiful; we are just thankful and happy that he is now reunited with “his wee yin” Marie. As per Iain’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family interment and celebration to follow. For those who wish, a memorial donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory. Online condolences may be made at www.pleasantviewcemetery.ca. “In the hearts of those who loved you, you will always be there”
