ARMSTRONG- James (Jim) William of Port Colborne passed away at the Toronto General Hospital on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the age of 64. Beloved husband of Penny (MacLean), loving father of MacLean Armstrong of Edmonton, Alberta and Michael (Jessica) Armstrong of Port Colborne, devoted Grrr of Callahan, brother of Denise (Ron) Stewart of Port Colborne and Bill Armstrong (Kelly Lewis) of Welland, son-in-law of Donna MacLean, brother-in-law of Pam (Brent) Symonds and Chris (Gord) Lannan all of Port Colborne. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Kay Armstrong and his father-in-law Bunny MacLean. Jim was born in Owen Sound, and spent this early years growing up in Southampton. He moved to Port Colborne in his early teens. Jim joined the Niagara Regional Police, right out of high school, advancing through the ranks, and retiring 35 years later as a Detective Sergeant out of the Major Crimes Unit. After retirement, Jim continued giving back as a Program Facilitator at Niagara College where he taught in the Police Foundations/Ride along-Mentoring Program. Deeply involved in the Port Colborne Country Club, he served as a long time member on the Board of Directors and as President. Proud member and past President of the Port Colborne branch of the Canadian Corps. Jim had a passion for sports and loved following his sons playing baseball, hockey and lacrosse all over the province. He volunteered as a coach in both Welland and Port Colborne minor hockey and was looking forward to the days of taking in the games as a Grandfather. Jim’s family will receive visitors at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Davidson Chapel with Rev. Canon Robert Hurkmans officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
