Update – Death of Serving NRPS Member – Nick Zarafonitis

ZARAFONITIS, Constable Nicholas Alexander – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Nick Zarafonitis announces his sudden passing on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the age of 49. Cherished son of Eileen and the late Alex (2002). He was the proud and loving father of James and will be affectionately remembered by James’ mother Shannon. He will be forever missed by his sister Diana Carroll, brother-in-law Alan and niece Emersyn. Dear friend of Wendy Lawrason and father figure to her children Cassie and Jake. Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Nick was born in Welland and graduated from Centennial Secondary School. He was a talented hockey player who played Welland Minor Hockey and was drafted by the OHL at the age of 16 where he played for the Toronto Junior Marlies and the Niagara Falls Thunder. He entered police service at the age of 20 and proudly served as a Constable for the Niagara Regional Police. He was a dedicated Dallas Stars fan and loved to play golf. Above all else, Nick was a devoted father and James was the light of his life. He was so proud of the young man he has become. They had a special bond that nothing could break.

The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Wednesday, February 21st from 2 -4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A Funeral Service honouring Nick’s life will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 77 Division Street, Welland on Thursday, February 22nd at 11 a.m. with Reception to follow in the parish hall.
