Death of Retired NRPS (Cst) Alex Herman
HERMAN, Alexander Hugh- April 6, 1924 – February 24, 2016 -At the age of 91, peacefully, surrounded with love, Alex ceased fighting and chose to surrender. Beloved father of Donna, brother of Victor (Doreen), Uncle of Heather (Jack) and Gerard (Vinnie) he will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, their families, faithful friends Kate, Michelle (David), Jesse, Krista and many others, co-workers and associates. Predeceased by his wife Jeanne (Matte), Mother Agnes (Spowart), Father Henry, Brother Frank (Ann), and his Sister Margaret (Rolly LaRose). A native of Welland, Alex served in the Canadian Navy WW2 North Atlantic Theatre from July, 1942 to November, 1945. Upon honourable discharge, he was employed at Niagara Die & Tool Company and Electric Metals before joining the Welland Police Department in 1954, which later became the Niagara Regional Police Services. He proudly served as a Constable for 30 years until his retirement in 1984. A long standing member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Royal Canadian Legion #71 Fort Erie and the Niagara Regional Police Association, Alex also continued his life of service as a good friend of Bill W. for over 50 years. He was a devoted husband, father and friend, avid reader, enjoyed golf, fishing and boating (much of it in Tarpon Springs, Florida) and was a staunch Blue Jays baseball fan. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, March 29th at H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street in Welland, Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 1900 Thompson Road, Fort Erie with Legion Service and Life Celebration Reception at 1:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 71, 130 Garrison Rd., Fort Erie. In lieu of flowers, Alex has suggested donations to Hotel Dieu Shaver Health & Rehabilitation Centre/Steve Ludzik Centre for Parkinson’s Rehab or the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 71 in Fort Erie.

Death of Retired NRPS (Sgt.) Stanley “Lee” Raymond

RAYMOND, Stanley Lee, retired Regional Niagara Police officer passed peacefully at the age of 96 on February 15, 2016. Lee was a WWII veteran from 1939-1945. He served in the 48th Highlanders and the Ontario Regiment in Italy. Lee is predeceased by his wife Anne and his son Jeffery. Survived by sons Paul and Neil (Rossi), four grandchildren Jeffery, Jessie, Debra, Neil and four great-grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff of Maple Park Lodge and Dr. Che. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will follow at a later date.

Death of NRPS Retired (Cst) Donald Healey
HEALEY, DONALD ALFRED died suddenly in Florida Feb. 14, 2016 at the age of 78. Survived by wife Anne, sons Craig (Kelly) & David (Rose) Healey and Grandson Julian. Stepsons Scott Lalonde Montreal & David Hurd-Kelowna BC. Sisters Mary Fast, Ann Sturm, (Victor), twin brother Ronald (Cathy). Retired from Niagara Regional Police Force 1992. Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service is being held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 @ 2:00pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 29 Bald St., Welland, Ont.

An exception has been made for the coverage of the shingles vaccine, such as Zostervax, for a limited period of one year. Shingles vaccines charged from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 will be reimbursed based on the drug benefit provisions in the PPAO plan (subject to 80% coinsurance and the annual drug maximum). No other vaccines will be covered.Effective January 1, 2017, coverage for shingles vaccine will be terminated.

Death of Retired NRPS (Superintendent) Henry (Hank) Harley
HARLEY, Henry (Hank) – February 19, 1942 – February 2, 2016. Passed away, peacefully, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, at the age of 73. Survived by his loving wife Andrea of 52 years. Loving father of Glen Harley, of Sarnia; Sheryl Benter (Dan), of Corona, CA; and Sheila Hague (Bob), of Kitchener. Loving grandfather to Eric and Alex Benter, Nicolas Hague and Megan and Jesse Harley. Loving brother of Wayne (Pat) Harley of Waverley, Nova Scotia. Brother-in-law to Cathy (Gord) Deacon; Gus (Pearl) Groen, of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Wes (Mary) Groen, of Salmon Arm, B.C. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by John (Ann) Groen and Herman (Brenda) Groen. A Public Visitation will take place on Friday, February 5th, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the VERHOEVE FUNERAL HOME, 262 Broadway St., Tillsonburg. Funeral Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 101 Bidwell St. (at Washington Grand Ave.) Tillsonburg, by Rev. Stephen Amorin. “A man who was larger than life in many ways. Sadly we have learned of the passing of Neil Jessop from the Windsor Police Service. Neil was a Past President of the Windsor Police Association and past director with the PAO.
