It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our Mikee. Husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Nancy, as well as his three kids Andrea (Greg), Michelle (Brian) and Kurt (Leanne) and grandchildren, Raeleigh, Bowen, and Alvin.
Mike also leaves behind his many nieces and nephews as well as his brothers Steve (Venise) and Tom (Sandy), sisters Suzy (Rick) and Cathy (Peter), and mother, Margaret. He has been reunited with his father, Donald.
Mike was a proud member of the Niagara Regional Police for 38 years, where he worked alongside his brother, Steve. Mike spent his last 25 years working in forensics. While he truly loved his job, his second career at the golf course looked pretty good on him too. Mike was very handy, a skillset he passed along to his son, Kurt. When not on the course, his wife and daughters kept him busy building and fixing all the things on their never-ending to do lists. He did so with a smile on his face and joy in his heart.
Mikee had a smile that could light up a room and a zest for life that was infectious. He was always positive, always light, always taking life one day at a time. Mike loved his Bud Light, his country music, and his golf but he lived for his family. His favourite days were spent on family trips and in more recent years, his grandkids brought him joy like nothing else could.
In true Mikee fashion, he remained upbeat throughout his year-long battle with cancer, brightening the day of all those he encountered. His courage, attitude and perseverance were nothing short of remarkable.
Mike passed peacefully in the early hours on Saturday, Dec 9th, surrounded by family. He was very loved, and he will be very missed.
In accordance with Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place. For those who wish to show support to the family, please do so in the form of donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. This would be truly appreciated.
