DERDA, John Michael It is with heavy hearts that the Derda family announces the passing of John after a lengthy and courageous battle against MS. John passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the age of 61, with family by his side, so that he could go in peace knowing that he accomplished his task of keeping them safe. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 35 years Joanne (nee Vizgirda). Cherished father of Jennifer and Michael Derda. John will be sadly missed by his sisters Wanda Derda and Sue (Ken) Vail. He leaves behind his loving in-laws June and Anthony Vizgirda, as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He will be reunited with his parents Anthony and Emily and his sister Anne. John faithfully served several years with the Niagara Regional Police Service as a 1st Class Constable. A special thank you to the Woodlands of Sunset staff and volunteers for their dedicated and exceptional care. A special thank you is also extended to Dr. Ali of Welland and to our many friends who have supported all of us during this journey. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. visiting Friday, March 16, 2018 from 1 to 2 p.m. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will follow at 2 p.m at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The MS Society of Canada or Woodlands of Sunset (Recreation Programs).
