We are attaching (see below) the update we received from the PAO regarding the passing of Bill 175 this morning as well as the accompanying Press Release from the Tri-Party Associations (TPA, OPPA and PAO).
The Bill was “rammed through” with “debate” being completely stifled by the Liberal Government. Our frustration is best summed up by Conservative MPP Laurie Scott in the following video:
Thank-you MPP Scott. Sadly, the Ontario Chiefs of Police Association did not support the “rank and file” Associations and took no position on the erosion of the procedural fairness rights for our members – the members of the police services they lead – and in fact “supported” Bill 175.
The NRPA SMAC Committee will be working in conjunction with the PAO to determine the next steps and how the membership can get engaged in this issue as we now work through the “Regulations” process.
For now, if you have not gone to the www.keepontariosafe.ca website and made your concerns known about Bill 175, YOU ARE AGAIN URGED TO DO SO.
