Ladies and Gentlemen,
Below you will find an advisory prepared by Vice-President Dale Allan regarding pending tax changes that if implemented will affect all of us that are receiving employer health benefits or working health spending accounts. You are encouraged to use the link provided to add your names to the petition “donttaxmyhealthbenefits” and contact your local MP to voice your concerns.
We are also monitoring the recent changes made by President Trump through his executive order on travel issues. We will advise as more information and clarification of implementation is made available.
Sincerely
Terry Hill,
Communications and Membership Director
Police Pensioners Association of Ontario
We have recently been made aware that the Federal government has confirmed that they are considering making employer health and dental plans a taxable benefit, possibly as soon as this year. These benefits include chiropractic care, prescription drugs, mental health services, dental care, and more.
If implemented, this would mean you would pay income and payroll taxes on the premiums your employer pays like it was income – potentially meaning hundreds or thousands of dollars added to your tax bill annually. This would also mean that many employers may choose to cancel or reduce their benefits plans.
The federal government needs to hear from patients that taxing these essential health benefits will negatively affect 22 million Canadians who access care through benefits.
