Sadly we have been informed that retired Hamilton Police Chief Brian Mullan has passed. Below is information from the Hamilton Police Retirees with he obituary for Brian. We will add the passing of Brian to our Last Post page on the web site.

Some of you may have known Brian through his many investigations and organization he was involved with over the years. Our condolences to the family and friends.

Death of PPAN Member – (Cst.) Sid Smith

Passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on June 21, 2021 at the age of 82, just a few days after his sister Gladys Honey Pearson, while the seasons were changing. He is survived by his wife Shirley, children Terry (Linda), Linda (Keith) Nault and Kevin (Lori), grandchildren Andrew, Matthew (Carole), Bryan (Tenesha), Catharine, Megan, Sarah and Cara and great-grandchildren Caleb, Alex, Lilijana, Rosalee, Macic and Hunter. Predeceased by his infant son Dale, siblings Gladys, Edgar, Edmond, Dorothy, Charlie, Edna, Dolly, Alvin and Donald, his parents Gladys & Alvin Smith, parents-in-laws Thelma & Harper Young and brother-in-law Russell Young. Sid had started work for the City of Welland Police Force and continued for 44 years with the Niagara Region. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodlands of Sunset and the Niagara Regional Police for their care and understanding during the last two years of difficulty. You did a great job. As per Sidney’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Woodlands of Sunset or the Niagara Regional Police Service – Canine Unit.

Death of Retired NRPS Civilian Member – Annette Anita Murray

Annette Anita Murray – Ms. Murray passed away on April 16, 2021 at the St. Catharines Hospital after a brief illness.

Ms. Murray was a Civilian Service member who commenced her career with the Niagara Regional Police Service in 1986.  During her tenure with the Service, she was assigned as a Reader in the Records Unit.  After a 14 year career, Ms. Murray retired from the Service in 1998.

As per Ms. Murray’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

Death of Retired NRPS Officer – (Cst.) Wayne Eckhart

ECKHART, Wayne Morris Passed away peacefully at home, with family by his side, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the age of 76. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Karen Eckhart. Loving father of Susan Kutvonen (Mark). Cherished son of Isabel and the late Harry Eckhart. Dear brother of Maureen Oprzedek (late Walter), and the late Norman Eckhart. Brother-in-law of Lester Burden (Debbie), Myrna Eddy, Bill Burden (Edna), and the late Shirley McDonaugh (late Murray). Wayne will be missed and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Wayne proudly served in our Armed Forces in RCEME for almost 4 years. He was very proud of his 30 year career with the Niagara Regional Police. Dad planned on going fishing on opening day for Walleye “Pickerel”, however they are safe from him now. Memorial contributions (payable by cheque or online) to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522).
